PIE Grant of the Month

Stories from the Field

SEPTEMBER :

Nebraska Recycling Council

The Nebraska Recycling Council received a $5,000 PIE grant from the Nebraska Academy of Sciences to assist with our annual award luncheon and workshops on Thursday, September 15, 2022 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the Graduate Hotel. We will use funds to assist with design and print work related to conference promotion, video production for our annual awards presentation, as well as two keynote speaker honorariums.

Our conference theme this year is “Rediscovering Recycling: Evolving Markets+Evolving Perspectives.” Our workshop sessions are “The Weight of Waste: Why Markets Fluctuate and How to Adapt,” “Beyond the Basics: Targeting Next-level Landfill Diversion,”” Compost Corner: the state of Composting in Nebraska,” and “Seeking Sustainability: How consumer demand is changing business.” We will be hosting two keynote speakers, Steve Alexander, the president and CEO of the Association of Plastic Recyclers and the President of Resource Recycling, and Bob Gedert, the President of the National Recycling Coalition and former Executive Director of the California Resource Recovery Association. In addition to the workshop sessions and keynote speakers, we will have a vendor show and an awards luncheon featuring videos of our 2022 award winners.

Our in-person fall conference will be a great opportunity for networking, learning and sharing resources. We are thankful for the grant funding from the Nebraska Academy of Sciences and the Nebraska Environmental Trust for our Public Information and Education Grant.
