NAS EventsGeology Field TripMay 4th-5th, 2024 The Nebraska Academy of Sciences will be sponsoring a two-day Spring Geology Field Trip on May 4th and 5th to central and western Nebraska. The scientific focus of this year's trip will be on the geological history of Nebraska's rivers, the climate history of Nebraska's windblown sediments-sandhill sands and loess, as well as westward expansion along the Platte River and other points of interest. The science lead for this trip will be Dr. Paul Hanson of the UNL School of Natural Resources. Transportation will be provided, with departure from UNL after a brief orientation lecture in Bessey Hall beginning at 8:00 a.m. , May 4th. We will camp overnight in the Lake McConaughy area and return to UNL in the late afternoon on the 5th of May. Two lunches, breakfast, and dinner will be provided, as well as space in tents, if needed. If you are a member of NAS, or the Nebraska Association of Teachers of Science (NATS), or the Nebraska Geological Society (NGS) the trip cost will be $45. If you are not a member of these organizations the cost will be $90, and will include a one-year membership in the Nebraska Academy of Sciences. Registration will be through the NAS website,.
